Ron Schara
Inducted 2015
Ron’s childhood in northeast Iowa’s rugged bluff country fostered a love of nature and led him to study journalism and fish and wildlife biology at Iowa State University. Through his work on television, radio, and the press, Ron has become a vital resource and advocate for outdoor issues.
In 1968 Ron began writing an outdoor column for the Minneapolis Tribune. His natural talent as a great storyteller led to the creation of Minnesota Bound, starring Ron and his black Labrador Raven. Now, 20 years and 11 Emmy Awards later, the show continues to instill appreciation for the abundant natural resources and great opportunities that we have in Minnesota as Ron and Raven find new ways to introduce and share the stories of the people who work to preserve our regional environment.
Ron Schara Productions has created outdoor features for KARE-11-NBC, ESPN, the Outdoor Channel, and the Fox Sports Network. He is a regular guest and program host on WCCO Radio. His many awards include induction into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame. The author of four books, Ron is a nationally recognized champion of conservation and the outdoors.
