Eric Eskola
Inducted 2010
As a longtime reporter for the Good Neighbor to the Northwest and a political reporter working out of a cluttered yet cozy office in the basement of the state Capitol, Eric Eskola has delivered years of straight-forward, informative, old-school journalism.
While still in college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Eric began his broadcast career in 1971 as a film librarian and radio news producer at local television and radio station KDAL. Doing play-by-play announcing for UMD football and basketball games, Eric quickly took on a morning show, a music show, and a cross-section of other programs. In 1980 Eric was hired by WCCO Radio as a journalist and went on to cover the state Capitol from 1985 to 2010, appearing as a news anchor and personality on the WCCO Morning Show. During this period he became the co-host of the Emmy-award-winning Twin Cities Public Television show Almanac, joined on the air by his wife, Cathy Wurzer, in 1994.
Often referred to as “one of the best political reporters in Minnesota,” Eric Eskola has been there for every election and every political event. He has become the one to go to for what is happening in Minnesota politics.
